Summary

How do we find the courage to always be true to ourselves—even if we are unsure of who we are?

That is the central question of international bestselling author Paulo Coelho’s profound new work, The Witch of Portobello。 It is the story of a mysterious woman named Athena, told by the many who knew her well—or hardly at all。 Like The Alchemist, The Witch of Portobello is the kind of story that will transform the way readers think about love, passion, joy, and sacrifice。

I thoroughly enjoyed the writing Coelho's writing choice for this book - a seried of second- and third-hand interviews about the Witch of Portobello, each with their own opinions and one-sided observations about the subject。 Things aren't always as they appear。 I thoroughly enjoyed the writing Coelho's writing choice for this book - a seried of second- and third-hand interviews about the Witch of Portobello, each with their own opinions and one-sided observations about the subject。 Things aren't always as they appear。 。。。more

I really enjoyed reading The Witch of Portobello, but it wasn’t a “great” book。 I love the concept of exploring the divine feminine through dance, this is something I’ve recently become very interested in。 The execution seemed a bit rushed through, and I think that’s my biggest issue here。 There are some weird parts of the story where much detail is given only for it to go nowhere。 3。5/5

Masterful, original writing, written in the perspectives of a dozen characters。 It somehow feels like the author has lived many lifetimes。 Every now and then the author writes a beautiful line about life which can be contemplated on。 You get to know the protagonist from the outside in。 Slowly unveiling the superficial facade of appearance and showing the complexity of the individual。 Showing that everything makes sense in some shape or form, if you know the backstory behind it。

Having read many of Paulo Coelho's books for many years, I have to conclude that this isn't one of his stronger books。 There are parts of this book that I liked or agreed with, but overall the narrative had some issues。 Having read many of Paulo Coelho's books for many years, I have to conclude that this isn't one of his stronger books。 There are parts of this book that I liked or agreed with, but overall the narrative had some issues。 。。。more

This is the first Paulo Coelho book that I’ve read。 I really enjoyed this book because of the way it’s written。 You get to read multiple POVs and see the whole story。 Despite the low ratings of this book, I actually enjoyed it。

I found the style in which this book was written to be very interesting。 The story was very interesting and it was a really easy read。 I am still debating how I feel about the main character and the story itself。 After reading some interviews with the author I definitely do not feel the book portrayed what he was going for。 This book did not feel feminine to me and I did not connect to the character as portraying a feminine side of god。 It was interesting to learn more about Romani culture (if w I found the style in which this book was written to be very interesting。 The story was very interesting and it was a really easy read。 I am still debating how I feel about the main character and the story itself。 After reading some interviews with the author I definitely do not feel the book portrayed what he was going for。 This book did not feel feminine to me and I did not connect to the character as portraying a feminine side of god。 It was interesting to learn more about Romani culture (if what was written is accurate) and he certainly created a series of events that I would love to more about。 。。。more

Hmm。。。A fairly easy-to-read book。 But a little too new-agey for me。 I'm not quite sure how a book about some sort of modern-day witch is really meant to make people think about the meaning of life。。。but perhaps that is because I'm too jaded and irreligious。 I wouldn't NOT recommend it - because it can be read pretty quickly but it is nothing revolutionary either。 Just manage your expectations。 Hmm。。。A fairly easy-to-read book。 But a little too new-agey for me。 I'm not quite sure how a book about some sort of modern-day witch is really meant to make people think about the meaning of life。。。but perhaps that is because I'm too jaded and irreligious。 I wouldn't NOT recommend it - because it can be read pretty quickly but it is nothing revolutionary either。 Just manage your expectations。 。。。more

Narrated from several view points, this book chronicles the journey of a certain girl, who trains to be a witch, while juggling her child, love affairs, and potential love interests。 The different view points make a drab story interesting, because it forms a collection of such varied stories, that they culminate together to form a good book。 Other than that, there's literally nothing else to the book。 The main protagonist is a lost, directionless girl without a clue as to what she's doing and wh Narrated from several view points, this book chronicles the journey of a certain girl, who trains to be a witch, while juggling her child, love affairs, and potential love interests。 The different view points make a drab story interesting, because it forms a collection of such varied stories, that they culminate together to form a good book。 Other than that, there's literally nothing else to the book。 The main protagonist is a lost, directionless girl without a clue as to what she's doing and what she really wants! 。。。more

I had to read and complete the book with lot of patience。。。I awaited for something to happen that could capture my heart and mind , but to my utter disappointment no such instances occurred。 At some points I was really impressed with Coelho's way of writing 。 The spiritualist theme was something of which I couldn't get the whole idea of 。 Everything seemed really vague and Hence I decided that this book is not really for me 。 However I am happy that I completed it 。 I had to read and complete the book with lot of patience。。。I awaited for something to happen that could capture my heart and mind , but to my utter disappointment no such instances occurred。 At some points I was really impressed with Coelho's way of writing 。 The spiritualist theme was something of which I couldn't get the whole idea of 。 Everything seemed really vague and Hence I decided that this book is not really for me 。 However I am happy that I completed it 。 。。。more
